Budget Time

Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at the Township Office, there is a public meeting regarding this year's budget.

Given that we are facing a deficit this year, there have been plenty of questions. Mayor Young produced a report that addresses many of these, and makes interesting reading in the bargain.

Who Am I?

My grandparents came to Lake of Bays in 1905, and we are now into the fourth generation here. With my brother, sister-in-law and nephew, I co-own and operate Bondi Village Resort, one of the oldest family-run resorts in the township.

I have an Honours BA from Queens University, Kingston.

The Tapley Family involvement with LOBA runs deep. We have been members since its inception, and my father, Paul Tapley, served as president of the Association.

Although I no longer take the time to dedicate to high level equestrian sport, I have competed internationally in the sport of Horse Trials, and am a Level 3 Equine Canada certified coach and judge, working with a limited number of students. Involved in the Paralympic movement, for five years, I was National Coach of the Paralympic Equestrian Team, and travelled with them to to the Paralympics, European and World Championships. That gave me tremendous insight into accessibility issues, as well as into the inspiring realm of the human spirit. I continue to conduct workshops and clinics with our paralympians.

A freelance writer, I have been published on a wide range of topics in local media, national magazines, and the Readers' Digest.

My favourite place is outdoors. At the resort, while my brother and nephew are the ones creating our trail network, I am the one conducting the Nature Programs -- Dark Skies, Wolf Howls, Nature Hikes. I also maintain our Bondi Resort Blog ('highly recommended' by Macleans Magazine) and also the Dwight Library Blog. Browsing those will give you a lot of insight into who I am...

Our property has received Stewardship Awards from the Muskoka Heritage Foundation. With 600 acres of land, we work closely with Managed Forestry and Wildlife Management to ensure the land is kept in as natural state as possible. We understand trails, and the need for outdoor recreation -- our 20 km. of hiking trails and cross country ski/snowshoe trails are open to the public. Over the years, we have hosted Loppets for the Dwight Winter Carnival, Siberian husky dog sled races, the Lake of Bays Association Silent Boat Rally and Dock Talk programs on native plant species and shoreline restorations. We're green -- with two types of solar collectors hard at work at Bondi Village!
